Still delving into the mysteries of Life and our capability, as well as possibility, of doing something about it (i.e. improve it), a thought comes to my mind. At a certain moment, some of us start thinking that it might be a good idea to make a general overview on what they have been doing so far and where they presently find themselves. Are you among those?

See if you are willing to look at yourself without prejudices or pre-conceived ideas, without saying, “I already know myself, I don’t need any investigation.” Yes, you certainly “believe” you know yourself but, as someone said, our job is to create ourselves and our life moment by moment. Therefore, no-one can possibly think to be totally aware of who he/she really is. Beside not knowing who you are this very moment, you (I and everybody else) keep changing all the time, although it might seem that you are always the same. If you look at yourself in the mirror, you see the usual image day after day and cannot detect any of the tiny changes that are regularly and inexorably taking place in your body, on your face — all the time. As your physical aspect changes (but you become aware of such transformation much later, when it results unmistakably evident) also your inner self is never the same. Why? Because every experience you undergo, every word you utter or listen to, everything you see or do have a consequence. They carve a little dent into your personality, into your outlook on life, into your attitude and feelings. Human beings tend to accredit the idea that they are not affected by some “stuff” that happens to them.

But they are. We all are. Absolutely nothing happens without leaving a trace. Such trace might not be immediately visible, but it is there. It exists. And it has a consequence.

All this said, it seems clear that it is rather important to examine what is happening (along with what happened) in your life, in order to detect and understand the actual situation, in order to become aware. You don’t need to be a senior to carry out such test. People of any age can benefit from doing it. Becoming aware, “waking up”, is not a prerogative of old age. Actually, being a senior is not even a guarantee of wisdom. Anyone who is smart enough to realize that they have the power to create a better life for themselves (and, consequently, for their dear ones), is usually willing to use all the tools they can lay their hands on in order to do just that: Improve their lives.

So, here goes “the test:”

Start by asking yourself about the real situation you are presently in.

JOB? Check! Are you satisfied with what you do or would you prefer to be doing something else? Do you feel appreciated enough, rewarded enough, respected enough?

FINANCES? Check! Do you feel reasonably secure? Can you relax and enjoy what you have or are you constantly worried about the future?

FAMILY? Check! Is your family situation/environment acceptably serene? Are you enjoying a good relationship with your relatives or are you having a serious problem with anyone? Is it possible to solve such problem or is it an on-going, never-ending predicament?

PERSONAL ATTITUDE? Check! Are you comfortable with your life as it is right now? Do you (or don’t you) behave in a way that makes others feel at ease?

DEEPER FEELINGS? Check! Do you believe you have done your best? Have you fulfilled your own expectations?

This should be enough for now. If you take the time to answer these questions, you will learn a lot more about the reasons why you are where you are — NOW.
