Don’t you think it is all too pat? Like everything is falling into place magically and with perfect precision. The noose, as they say, is tightening around Shashi Tharoor and you can sense the choreography.

The Tharoor domestic not only has total memory recall but he comes off sounding like he was keeping a diary. My domestic helps don’t remember yesterday. This guy has a litany of 2.40 am and 3.30 pm and 4.45 pm and a record of even the right room numbers.

Where was he this whole time and how come no one asked these questions. We never heard from him for a year and now he is rabbiting on about it in perfect sequence and perfection always makes me suspicious. In real life nothing is so perfect.

Then much is being made of the Tharoors fighting. I don’t know the tenor of the fights but husbands and wives do fight. In the car, at parties, at home, over lunch and they do threaten. And fighting with each other does not ipso facto mean you were ready to kill.

Against the lynch mob mentality where the Lutyen social circle whatever that is gets indicted ad nauseum for supporting Shashi Tharoor as if that was a crime I am sure he has to gird himself for a hard time.

This is India’s OJ and Oscar Pistorius combined and it is just too juicy and spicy for TRPs and opinions and cannot be wished away. India is just going to lap it up.

They are going to milk it to the last drop. It is irresistible. A man who would have very nearly been the secretary-general of the United Nations now confronted by an inquisition.

This sort of stuff last happened when Prem Ahuja was shot by Commander Nanavati for having a fling with his wife in the scandal of the last century.

Just let’s hope the killer doesn’t get away while we are chasing the sizzle. One thing more. If the Leela Hotel has all the copies of all the tapes of all the CCTV footage that was ostensibly working that fateful day then the top management of the hotel already knows who went in and out at crucial times. The minute this news broke they must have huddled in the conference room and watched it several times. What’s the big deal.

Put it out, show it. And if they don’t have a copy then their signed statement that they handed all the recordings to the police means diddly.
