Exactly what motivated the Scots to ask for total independence from the United Kingdom remains a mystery. Keeping in view the results of the referendum, it seems that it was an Arab conspiracy to redraw the map of the United Kingdom to avenge the British advances in the Arab lands and for colonizing the Arab countries.
The British were known for using the divide-and-rule tactics to rule their colonies. Now, it is the Arabs’ turn to divide the UK and shrink it into a lonely island.
Apparently, the British never saw this conspiracy coming from the Arab world. The first step was to hire an American intelligence agent, Mel Gibson, to remind the Scots of their past efforts to drive the British out of their lands. It was done through producing a movie titled “Braveheart.” The movie reminded the Scots of their glorious past and reminded them of their brave leader William Wallace of the 13th Century. In 2014, the old Scottish warrior has been replaced by the “Yes” vote politician, Alex Salmond, to campaign for Scottish separation.
In the second stage, the UK’s economy was to be targeted. We saw the British Fish and Chips disappear from London streets only to be replaced by Sheesh Kabab and Shawarma food joints. It was an attempt to change centuries old British habits and social behaviors. The Sherlock Holmes-style pipe smoking was replaced by the Hubbly Bubbly (Shisha) and Arabic Qahwah replaced the afternoon tea. Of course, I did not mention the economic invasion of England by the Arab rich elite. There are more expensive luxury cars at the Dorchester Hotel with Arabic number plates than the cars going in and out of the Buckingham Palace. And also, the overtaking of Harrods of London and every expensive apartment at Knights Bridge. Nowadays, there are more Arabic signs along Edgware Road than English. Now, let’s get serious. There were no riots on the streets of London or Edinburgh and no arrests and most important there was no pointing fingers to outsiders.
The latest result of the referendum showed the world the perfect example of how to deal with internal differences and qualities of a true democracy. A true democracy teaches people how to respect others’ opinions and how to deal with major national issues. The UK would have lost one-third of its area, five million of its population, huge chunk of its national income and there would have been major changes to the geopolitical map. The Scottish independence would have cost the British taxpayers billions of dollars just to move the Trident nuclear submarine bases from Scotland to other parts of the UK. At the end of the day, the leader of Scottish National Party, Alex Salmond, announced his resignation after failing to secure a majority vote. Can you imagine how many thousands of lives would have been saved if Bashar Assad of Syria stepped down when he was told that he was not needed any more? This is why the UK and Scotland gained more respect in the Arab world than any other time. The Arab world is still reeling from the effects of the so-called Arab Spring and all we think about is conspiracy theories.
In the Arab world, if people ask for political or social reforms, it becomes a foreign conspiracy. If people fed up with social inequalities and a lack of basic amenities take to the streets, it is said to be the handiwork of imperialist forces.
In our part of the world, we enjoy discussing conspiracy theories. If we assume that whatever happening in the Arab world is a conspiracy against the region, then why aren’t we taking any action to stop the killings and foil the plans of our “perceived enemies?”
It is very important to learn from others. Scotland wanted independence from the UK so they went to the polls and voted. Very simple and no harm is done. In Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Libya everyone is pretending to be having the right to judge and kill and at the end of the day, blame it on “foreign powers.” We should remember that conspiracies only work when there are internal divisions.
