This guy called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin a patriot and then had to say, oops, sorry. Now, he comes out a day after an an Indian MP Anaduddin Owais announced that all children are born Muslim and then converted. That storm is still raging when sunshine here decides to join the parade and announces that all Indian women should produce at least four children so that Hinduism holds sway.
Sir, she can hardly feed one where is she going to feed three. Arguably, he wants to ‘balance’ out the four wives and 40 children that every Muslim family has. Not yet met even one but who is listening. Why can they not just leave everyone alone to do an honest day’s work and return to their families.
Thing is these are not zealots from a pulpit. These are elected parliamentarians who own their seats at the ballot. You’d think they would be hauled up for going against the secular Constitution but religious fervor is the new flavor in the country. Every day one of them gets media space for some outrageous statement and it doesn’t matter if it makes no sense.
There is one crawling out of the woodwork everyday and the religious divide gets sharper and more dangerous. We had one the other day who wanted to kick off the campaign on ‘Coming back home’ so that India would be Hindus.
Addressing a gathering in the north Indian town of Meerut, MP Sakshi Maharaj told a crowd that “the concept of four wives and 40 children will not work in India and the time has come when a Hindu woman must produce at least four children in order to protect Hindu religion,” said a newspaper report.
He did not stop here. To protect Hinduism our valiant fighter went two steps further. Cow slaughter and being found to engage in religious conversion (unless it is to Hinduism?) should be met with a death sentence.
Who are these people and how can they be members of Parliament. When will this nonsense stop?
