What a humane way to warn people of the impending danger: First airdropping leaflets and then targeting homes and other buildings by missiles reducing the concrete structures into rubbles, of course, with people inside. Perhaps Israel believes that warning people before targeting their homes could justify its unjustifiable barbarity. Per the reports coming out from Gaza, Israel has so far airdropped 100,000 leaflets and send around a similar number of text messages “warning” Gazans of airstrikes.
But the poor people of the world’s biggest open-air jail have no place to hide to protect themselves from the missiles, which cannot differentiate between a “militant” and a civilian.
Ironically, the global powers see this conflict as a war between two parties neglecting the huge imbalance of power between the two sides. They have perhaps chosen to remain oblivious to the fact that one side has opened the gates of hell on innocent people. This is a conflict with a strong military power that is getting sophisticated weaponry free from the United States on one side and unarmed men, women and children on the other.
Following in the footsteps of their leaders, the western media is portraying the barbaric attack as a war between Palestinian rockets and Israeli “retaliation.” Their failure to acknowledge the fact that the rockets fired by Hamas mostly land in the desert area causing no damage to Israeli properties and not resulting in any casualty but the sophisticated missiles fired from the Israeli side is turning Gaza into ruins and so far killed over 200 people including women and children.
The way the western media outlets are reporting the events is most astonishing. The ongoing events are usually reported in this manner: “Death toll in nine-day conflict is now more than 200— the vast majority Palestinians.” Excuse me! The fact is that so far only one Israeli has been killed, which means that the rest are all Palestinians. For the information of readers, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been injured.
Israel wants Gazan civilians to leave their home but it does not tell them where to go. Gazans have no place to go, they have no bomb shelters to protect their lives.
Wafa Rehabilitation Center in Shijaiyah, which cares for 15 disabled and elderly patients, received several calls from Israeli authorities demanding patients’ evacuation, says its director, Basman Ashi.
He said an Israel shell hit near the building, causing damage to the second floor, but no injuries. Ashi said he could not evacuate his elderly patients because they have nowhere to go. However, some Europeans who are in Gaza are sympathetic to Gazans and see the true picture their leaders and media is not showing back home.
Four foreign volunteers — from England, the United States, France and Sweden — have set up a camp at the rehabilitation center to deter the Israeli military from targeting it.
English volunteer Rina Andolini, 32, said that the patients — 12 to over 70 years old — could neither walk nor move without assistance. She said that there were also 17 Palestinian staff members.
According to Andolini, the patients are living under perpetual fear that is intensified by an increase in Israeli bombardment from across the border.
Imagine if the situation was reversed and Hamas airdropped leaflets on Israeli homes asking them to leave before it sends rockets to destroy their homes.
I wonder how would the world powers and the western media react. I am sure that they would liken it to the Holocaust.
