JEDDAH: Leading Saudi women were hosted by the Indian Consulate in Jeddah, in association with the India Forum, to mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday at the consulate premises.
Among them was Rasha Hefzi, who was among the first women elected as municipal councilor in 2015 from Jeddah.
Prominent members of the Indian community and their families, as well as members of the media, attended in large numbers.
Khaled Almaeena, former editor-in-chief of Arab News, also attended.
Chief guest Dr. Nazneen Rahman, wife of Indian Consul General Noor Rahman Sheikh, spoke about the importance of International Women’s Day and various programs for female empowerment.
Yasmeen Al-Maimani, the second Saudi commercial pilot in the Middle East, Rahaf Al-Saiari, who was the UN’s first Saudi Youth Ambassador for Human Rights International, Samar Fatany, a senior journalist at the Jeddah Broadcasting Station, and Nouf Al-Marwaai, president of the Arab Yoga Foundation in Jeddah, shared their success stories.
The chief guest honored the Saudi speakers, as well as Indian teacher Zeba Habib Kidwai for her contribution to promoting the Hindi language for the last 27 years.
Two documentaries — “Women Scientists of India Mangalyaan,” and “Inspiring Indian Women Achievers” — were screened, and a quiz contest was organized.
