JEDDAH: The Consulate General of Pakistan in Jeddah organized an event to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, which was attended by Pakistani students, locals and media figures in Jeddah.
The event was marked with speeches by schoolchildren expressing their support for the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination, and urging India to demonstrate sincerity in resolving the longstanding dispute.
Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan said: “The purpose of observing this day is to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Kashmir; to pay homage to Kashmiri martyrs; to reiterate support for the right to self-determination; to condemn Indian violations of human rights; and to call on the international community to fulfil its obligation to hold a plebiscite.”
He added that the dispute would remain central to Pakistan’s foreign policy until its resolution in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
He said the purpose of inviting the younger generation to the occasion was to give them an opportunity to share their thoughts on the issue.
Chairman of the Kashmir Committee, Masood Puri, reiterated to the audience that the dispute must be resolved according to UN resolutions.
Shoab Mubarak, vice consul, read out messages from Pakistan’s president and prime minister, who expressed their commitment and unequivocal support to the cause of the people of Kashmir.
