JUBAIL: Toastmasters Division-L conducted its annual conference at the Marafiq Beach Camp in Jubail recently. Leaders of the Gavel Clubs and Youth Leadership Programs of Division-L also took part in the event attended by over 350 people.
Contestants demonstrated their intellectual prowess, sense of humor and readiness to think on their feet in a series of exciting contests in the competition’s standard categories of Prepared Speech, Humorous Speech, Table Topics Speech and Speech Evaluation.
Three keynote speakers from District-79 gave speeches: “Leadership — Making it a Habit” by Periyanayaham (Peri), “Power of Influence” by District 79 Program Quality Director James Taruc and “The Hidden Benefits of Public Speaking” by 2016 District-79 champion Nashid Abdul Khaliq.
The conference was stewarded by Past Division-L Governor Jacob Kuriakose and Chief Judge and Division L Director (2015-16) Venkat Devarajan. They were supported by Contest Chairs Ardee Flores (Table Topics), Mesfer Syed (Humorous), Kholood Halima (Evaluation), Praveena Arvind (International Speech), Sundus Babur (Gavel & YLP Showcase) and by Sergeant at Arms Nawaf Al-Zahrani.
Also present at the event were District-79 Director Soliman Almadi, Immediate Past District-79 Director Abdullah Al-Sharif, District-79 Program Quality Director James Edward Taruc, District-79 Club Growth Director Sheikh Shakil Anjum, Division-M Director Khalid M. Al-Ghamdi, Division-F Director Satish Kumar, Division-J Director Jolly Kollaparambil, Division-E Director Aziz Ahmed Siddiqui, Past Division Director Mohammed Jawad and Abdul Ghafoor along with area directors and division officers from the Eastern Province and Riyadh plus Toastmasters and their families.
The Table Topics Speech winners were Mark Villena, Ajith Kumar and Uzma Khalid. In Humorous Speech category, Abdul Rahim, Ajith Kumar and Biju CR emerged winners. In Speech Evaluation, the winners were Vidya Urs, Ajith Kumar and Arasu, and the International Speech contest was won by Mark Villena, Abdul Rahim and Nanda Kumar.
