Who is to blame?

This is with reference to the report “Islamophobia ‘in the air’” (June 1). Such incidents only add fuel to the fire of extremism that is currently raging in the Muslim world. The western media should be blamed for the hike in Islamophobic tendencies in the world. The biased coverage of the events unfolding in the Muslim world generates stereotypes and people in the western countries form their opinions based on those wrong or should we say one-sided information. The incident in question indicates that westerners are under the impression that the self-ascribed Islamic State and its likes across the world are the genuine representatives of the Muslims world over.

The western media is quick in showing atrocities committed by terrorist organizations but they don’t give due coverage to the majority of Muslims who denounce terrorist attacks and these organizations. The West tends to ignore an important fact that Muslims are actually the main victims of these terrorist organizations. Most of these terror outfits are active within the Muslim world. People in the West who have doubts about Muslims and Islam should stop blindly relying on their media. They should try to look into the matter themselves. They should realize that they are being manipulated by a few powerful groups who wish to rule the world by engineering wars across the world particularly in regions abundantly blessed with natural resources. This is not a conspiracy theory. One needs to connect the dots to understand the current global political scenario.

In short, non-Muslim people should avoid behaving in such disrespectful manner. Incidents of this nature only work in favor of deviant groups. — Rashid Ahmed Khan, Jeddah
