The National Campaign for Syrian refugees has distributed 70,000 food kits as part of the second phase of the Ramadan relief for Syrian refugees in the Syrian-Turkish border towns, a campaign official said.
The aid also consists of hygienic materials.
“The campaign aims to distribute 130,000 food kits during the Ramadan season. Each kit consists of 27 food items besides hygienic materials needed for one family,” Khaled Al-Salama, director of the campaign office in Turkey, said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency on Thursday.
He added that shortly before Ramadan his office distributed 30,000 kits consisting of 60,000 food baskets and 30,000 hygienic packets. The aid was distributed to Aleppo and nearby rural areas, Idlib, Hama and rural areas of Homs, Raqqa and a number of refugee camps close to the Syrian borders, apart from areas within Turkish territories where there are large concentration of refugees, he said, adding that an additional 70,000 kits will also be distributed in this area soon.
“This project for the month of Ramadan is undertaken on the orders of Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and under the supervision of Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Naif,” he explained.
The campaign has also been offering humanitarian assistance to refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
Nearly 1.8 million people are registered with the United Nations in countries around Syria with 6,000 people a day on average fleeing the country, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said earlier this week.
