ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday called for an immediate stop to Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, after a civilian plane in southwestern ‘Asir Region caught fire from a Houthi drone.
While Saudi security forces said on Wednesday that they had controlled the fire at Abha International Airport, the kingdom’s state media reported that authorities had also intercepted and destroyed two other drones launched by the militants toward the region that borders Yemen.
“These attacks threaten peace and security of Saudi Arabia, as well as the region. We call for the immediate cessation of such attacks,” the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement, as it condemned the Abha Airport attack.
“Pakistan reiterates its full support and solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against any threats to its security and territorial integrity,” the foreign office said.
The attack came days after US President Joe Biden declassified the Houthis as a terrorist organization. Former President Donald Trump designated Houthi militants as terrorists shortly before the end of his term.
