ISLAMABAD: Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has underlined the importance of business collaboration between Pakistan and Emirati peoples to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, Pakistani state media reported on Friday.
Tirmizi said this while addressing a gathering of Pakistani community members and Emirati guests at an Iftar at the Pakistani embassy in Abu Dhabi. The gathering included Pakistani doctors, engineers, educationists, businessmen and local Emiratis.
The ambassador underlined the need for ensuring better facilities for Pakistanis living in the UAE, including schools and educational institutions, the Pakistani state-run APP news agency reported. He urged Pakistani and Emirati businessmen to invest in this sector.
“Such interactions were essential for further strengthening the bilateral relationship between UAE and Pakistan,” he was quoted as saying.
“Interactions among people of our two countries provide opportunities for further enhancing business to business collaboration.”
The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, after China and the United States. Policymakers in Pakistan consider the Gulf state an optimal export destination due to its geographical proximity, which minimizes transportation and freight costs while facilitating commercial transactions.
The Gulf country is also home to some 1.5 million Pakistani expatriates and the second-largest source of remittances to the South Asian country, after Saudi Arabia.
