RIYADH: The foreign ministers of Arab and Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, strongly condemned on Sunday the opening of a “purported” Somaliland embassy in Jerusalem.
Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia, is opening the embassy in Jerusalem after Israel became the first, and so far only, UN member state to formally recognize the self-declared republic in December 2025.
The foreign ministers of the Kingdom, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, Mauritania, Kuwait, Algeria, Bangladesh, and Morocco said the “illegal and unacceptable step taken by the so-called Somaliland region in opening its purported embassy in occupied Jerusalem” is a flagrant violation of international law and a direct infringement upon the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem.
They affirmed their complete rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at entrenching an illegal reality in occupied Jerusalem or granting legitimacy to any entities or arrangements that violate international law and relevant UN resolutions.
They reiterated that East Jerusalem is Palestinian territory that has been occupied since 1967, and that any steps aimed at altering its legal and historical status are null and void and have no legal effect.
The ministers emphasized their full support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, and their complete rejection of any unilateral measures that infringe upon Somali territorial integrity or sovereignty.
