RIYADH: The Ministry of Labor and Social Development strongly supports the move to close shopping malls at 9 p.m.
The step, it says, seeks to attract more Saudis, especially females, to work at the malls.
In a statement, Khaled Aba Al-Khail, ministry spokesperson, said the ministry reiterates its previous move to implement the decision in near future. He said the ministry has set up workshops in partnership with the private sector to examine their suggestions.
He said the measure would provide job opportunities for young Saudis, as well as security and economic benefits to the Kingdom.
A committee comprising the Ministries of Labor and Social Development, Trade and other government agencies, completed a study on the subject in April 2014.
