5 Saudis win medals at world karate competition

JEDDAH: Saudi karatekas grabbed five medals at the World Karate Federation’s competition held in Istanbul, Turkey, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
Abdullah Al-Harbi won gold medal in under 60kg weight category defeating his compatriot Imad Al-Maliki who won the silver medal.
Misfer Asmari Rahman al-Badri and Salim Sarhani bagged bronze medals. Among others, Fahd Khathaami won bronze in 67kg category while Majid al-Khalifa clinched bronze in 75kg competition.
Ibrahim Al-Qanas, president of the Saudi Karate Federation, said they’re “not surprised by this accomplishment. We provided all means to achieve this target and aim to do better next time. Today we have achieved top ranking in the game that’s what makes up optimistic for a better and brighter future ahead.”
Some 500 karatekas from 54 countries participated in the three-day event which opened on Sept. 2, 2016.
