Living in Riyadh is becoming a challenge. When we leave our homes, we see construction activities underway everywhere, detours and a lack of coordination between various authorities. The recent rains have aggravated the situation.
We know that the municipality is making efforts to modernize and develop the city, including the Riyadh metro, but driving your car to reach your destination has become a risky adventure.
We fully support these projects that will eventually make our lives easier but this doesn’t mean that we should refrain from constructive criticism. Transparency and constructive criticism doesn't mean we are self-hating. We understand that the Riyadh Metro Project will help resolve the traffic issue in our city. The traffic problem is becoming intolerable day by day and the traffic department appears to be completely absent from the scene, which adds to the worsening situation.
Just imagine that you need hours to move from one part of the city to the other and when you succeed in reaching your destination you find that you have reached a point of no return.
Accidents are more likely to occur in such a chaotic situation, and when they do, traffic comes to a complete standstill. Motorists are then forced to stay in their cars waiting for traffic policemen for hours.
The problem doesn’t end here, but it worsens when police establish checkpoints in one-way streets that are already jammed. In such a situation, you have no other option but to be patient, keep looking at the endless line of cars and contemplate. We know that the situation is very difficult, but there are always solutions to alleviate the suffering of the people. We need a crisis cell to look into this matter.
