There is nothing sadder than eating humble pie with a side of crow. As the BBC put him on probation for using the n-word and mulled over removing Jeremy Clarkson, the well-known Top Gear broadcaster had to go on TV and offer a painful, agonizing apology for his indiscretion.
Technically, he was taped off cam and his reciting of the old poem ‘eeny meeny mina mo….’ Was not aired. But the Mirror got hold of it and that is that.
So that fact is giving the BBC a very hard time to create grounds for dismissal. It was a private moment and not meant to go on air. While it is fine for everyone else to go public with their condemnation in itself, it is a silly little nursery rhyme and even if it is politically incorrect the n-word in the original doesn’t even ring a discordant bell.
I don’t think black people really care, they just love to see white people offering apologies and being all contrite and covering themselves with sackcloth and ashes.
But it is an intolerant world we live in and it is very difficult to explain to a child that it is alright for a black person to use the n-word every second sentence especially if he is a stand-up comic or a celeb or a rap singer but anybody else using it and all hell breaks loose. If it is so insulting stop using it yourselves.
Anyway, we have Mr. Clarkson mumbling pathetically for about two minutes, drenched in dismay, obviously reading from a teleprompter the words written from the HR and PR combine of the BBC and most uncomfortable doing it.
As for sincerity, there is not even a soupcon of it. It is just a mockery and racist apologies shouldn’t even be given a look in. Racist apologies and make goods are terrible stuff and even more insulting than the offence. You are not sorry. You are actually saving your job period.
You are honestly patronizing the target audience and you are not that important that a silly nursery rhyme from you is going to destroy the black population of the world.
It is time there was a law that stated that if you are racist don’t say anything after you have said something wrong, just go. If you are racist, so be it, now go. But instead, we trot out this pathetic little after the fact speech that says nothing and actually emphasizes the racism that is still rife in the world.
