THE killing of Cecil the lion is horrifying. But it is also hypocritical. That dentist guy from the US is the archetypal macho hunter who kills bison, deer, elk, moose and hangs their heads on his wall. The real killers are the people who took the $55,000 and allowed the farce of a hunt to continue.
Many years ago when India was still responding to London one of the titled Englishmen came to hunt and was promised a tiger. I remember writing about the fact that during the hakka (villagers beating the bushes to lead the animal to the hunter) no tigers were found. To ensure the earl or whatever had a good deal a tiger was bought from a traveling circus and let loose in the forest. The poor cat, more accustomed to jumping on colored balls was clueless and soon dead.
The dignitary stood proudly on his trophy and all would have been well if the hunter had not stroked the fur and discovered a leather collar with the name ‘Raju’ tagged on it.
Come on, give that dentist killer a break. He epitomizes the pleasure people get in the killing of animals. It doesn’t matter what animal you kill. If you kill, you kill. I hate it. It makes me sick. But it is the corruption that allowed Walter Palmer to go on the Zimbabwean safari. Ask Theo Bronkhorst the local hunter who pleaded not guilty to a charge of "failing to prevent an unlawful hunt" and given nominal bail.
The co-accused farm owner Honest Ndlovu - will appear at a later date and probably also get bail.
Who are those guys...get them first. Who was paid off to look the other way. There must be many more because that kind of money goes a long way.
What is this American uproar about? They love hunting. They have seasons for it. How can one be right and other so wrong that you would charge the man criminally. Go on, read Field and Stream, it is one of a hundred magazines dedicated to hunting.
You don’t believe that it is a sport in most countries to hunt type in America’s favorite animals to hunt on your search engine.
If Cecil had been a wild lion it would have been fine.
Go anywhere in the hills of Kumaon in India or the army messes and you will see the remains of a thousand cats adorning their walls. You want shark fin soup, you got it. The murder of seals and dolphins. Whale blubber. Venison, Robin Hood.
Change the mindset, the rest is drivel.
