A charity society, Mawakeb Al-Ajar, organized a second-hand shop (Al-Warraq) in Jeddah to put on sale recycled books and other old items. However, organizers of the exhibition complained of the low turnout of visitors. The event, which was held for the fourth time, had on display a lot of used books in Arabic and English languages in different fields.
Mawakeb Al-Ajar receives a lot of second-hand books and other used items as donations from Saudis and expats. These items are offered for sale at low prices and the income earned is used to help widows, orphans and those who are unwell.
The second-hand shop (Al-Warraq) was organized in Attallah center for entertainment targeting the visitors there. However, one of the organizers told Arab News, “We expected to receive more visitors as in previous years but there were very few visitors this year. We used the social media to advertise the event and there was a strong interaction among users of Facebook and Twitter.”
Dr. Abeer Al-Nowaiser, the second-hand shop supervisor said, “We receive anything that is no longer needed by individuals, families, schools and companies. The income generated from these items is used to help orphans, widowed and poor people.”
