IN a recent report published in the Atlantic magazine, Obama was quoted as saying he wanted to be remembered as a man who had a doctrine, which was different from the past and future US presidents.

He went on to say that the Saudis needed to “share” the Middle East with the Iranians. “The competition between the Saudis and the Iranians — which has helped to feed proxy wars and chaos in Syria and Iraq and Yemen — requires us to say to our friends as well as to the Iranians that they need to find an effective way to share the neighborhood and institute some sort of cold peace.

“These sectarian conflicts continue to rage and our Gulf partners, our traditional friends, do not have the ability to put out the flames on their own or decisively win on their own, and would mean that we have to start coming in and using our military power to settle scores. And that would be in the interest neither of the United States nor of the Middle East.”

But what the US president forgot to say was that these sectarian conflicts were the consequences of the US occupation of Iraq in 2003 and giving the Iranian-backed clerics a free hand to annihilate the Sunni population of that Arab country.

These statements are part of Obama’s appeasement policies toward Iran and to achieve an American-Persian rapprochement at the cost of its Arab and Muslim allies. He has almost portrayed Iran as a peace-loving nation at a time when it is apparently involved in sowing seeds of sectarian strife in the region. I don’t know what he has to say about Iran following a ruling by a New York court ordering Iran to pay over $10 billion in compensation to the families of the Sept. 11 victims after citing evidences about its involvement in these attacks. Not only this, but he seems infuriated to see devoted Muslim women in Indonesia wearing “hijab” because “... Gulf Arab countries have funneled money, and large numbers of imams and teachers, into the country.

When the Gulf Arab countries funnel money to help Muslims in these countries, they do so for a good reason, unlike billions of American dollars that go to Israel every year to help the occupation suppress the Palestinian people.

To him, “a country cannot function in the modern world when it is repressing half of its population.” In meetings with foreign leaders, Obama has said, “You can gauge the success of a society by how it treats its women.”

We don’t know what are his sources of information? We would like to remind him that millions of Arabs in Ahwaz are under Iranian occupation and the Kurds and liberal Iranians are also victims of the Iranian sectarian regime. We also appreciate his concern about Arab woman, but he doesn’t know that the Iranian women are being sold in sex trade in the streets. We suggest that he should also take a look at those poor American girls forced to enter sex trade due to one reason or the other. This article is not to talk about the moral and ethical decay in the US because this requires volumes to write about, but it is meant to talk about the American administration’s betrayal of its friends, not only the Arabs, but Turkey as well.

The Obama administration has created a power vacuum in the Middle East to be filled in by the Russians, Israelis, Iranian and Syrians. When the Kingdom and the US Secretary of State John Kerry called for airstrikes against Assad regime, it was for a noble reason — to stop the killing of thousands of Syrian civilians, the Iranian sectarian war against the Sunni population in Syria and Iraq, and the terrorist groups. Kerry has once said.”..History is full of leaders who have warned against inaction, indifference, and especially against silence when it mattered most.” Unfortunately history will not remember Mr. Obama as one of those leaders.

Nevertheless, Mr. Obama, you have taught us a good and tough lesson — never trust the US policymakers.

That is why Saudi Arabia is working for the creation of a third power — an Arab-Muslim force to “stand united in confronting all challenges and preserving peace and stability in the region.”
