The current stalemate prevailing in Syria is bothersome. The brutality of the ferocity has not come to a halt and it seems there is no end to the battle in the near future. It is imperative that a viable way out is pursued and carried out.
Syrians slain so far in the struggle has crossed 65,000 and thousands have been displaced. The whole country has been devastated, many buildings have been razed to the ground because of the heavy bombardments and deadly clashes. I feel that the circumstances will only get worse as long as there is no serious plan to halt the fighting. All previous plans have failed as both sides of the conflict have stuck to their positions.
I am of the opinion that the latest proposal by the Syrian National Coalition leader Moaz Al-Khatib should be taken seriously and in all its earnestness for the sake of the future of Syria. His readiness to initiate dialogue with the Syrian regime’s representatives to end the conflict is a positive step. Syrian cannot suffer any more as they have already paid a very hefty and costly price for the conflict. — Shaukat Naeem Ghumman, Riyadh
