Saudi youth condemn sectarian cries
There is no doubt that one of the negative manifestations of the ongoing political conflicts in the Arab world is the increase of the sectarian tone to discussions between segments of society. This disturbing phenomenon has a clear impact on the stability and harmony of the Saudi community as a whole.
The increase of this destructive trend had caught the interest of some Saudi writers, intellectuals and youth who believe in the unity of Saudi society.
Apart from disturbing nature of recent events, they stressed on the importance of keeping the public interest of the nation away, not just from sectarian prejudice but regional and tribal discrimination also.
It is very imperative for all citizens to renounce and reject sectarian tension. This was confirmed by the activities of Saudi youth on popular social media platforms where they initiated calls to renounce everything related to any form of sectarianism.
They were keen to stress that Muslims from all sects are part of the same body.
The general awareness about the role of such destructive behavior in undermining the security and stability of the social fabric should take priority in local media to reduce its negative impact.
The best solution agreed by many intellectuals for the arbitration of public opinion is through the enhancement of the sense of citizenship over all other social or religious discriminations.
The end goal should not just concentrate on only analyzing the current events which lead to the increase of sectarian cries, but the continuous strengthening of social unity and the relentless pursuit to maintain the security and stability of the country, away from any domestic dispute or conflict that may affect the sanctuary of the Saudi community.
The constant empowerment of the spirit of citizenship can be achieved through doing away with any inferiority complexes over sect, tribe or region. It can be achieved through the expression of our opinions in a civilized manner and to realize the only way we can get others to respect us, is by respecting them in return.
It is encouraging and reassuring to see some young Saudi people attempt to fight sectarianism by using social media tools, in a serious attempt to switch the feelings and attitudes that are increasing amid the alarming political disputes in the region.
It is a healthy sign that society is trying to heal itself from a deadly disease that may hinder its development.
