The statement by Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), that coordination among OIC institutions is a synergetic, non-overlapping action deserves appreciation.
The OIC is a vital organization that provides much-needed cooperation between its member states. For any joint action or united stand on any world issue, this international organization, like the UN, has played an important role. However, like the UN it has its limitations, which it cannot go beyond.
Terrible issues such as Syria and Palestine stare us in the face without any solution in sight. Iran, which is also an OIC member, has led a campaign of sectarianism, egged on by its expansionism policy, which goes very much against the spirit of the OIC. The organization therefore needs to formulate far-reaching policies to give more meaning to its vital existence, and to see to it that peace is restored in the region.
