Hilal under pressure
This coming Friday, the long awaited match in the Crown Prince’s Cup will take place when Hilal meets Nassr for the first time in the final of this championship. Hilal is the team with the most wins in this tournament, having won 11 times including five consecutive years from 2008 while Nassr only has two victories to its credit.
If we look at both teams’ standings, Hilal has consistently been the champion, each time having to beat Nassr before reaching the finals.
But this year may be a little bit different as Hilal’s performance has greatly dipped. Compare it to 2011 when it used to be aggressive and intimidating. After that season, Hilal’s strength started declining. Right now, it is at its worst, and Nassr must take advantage of that.
Hilal’s coach is considerably new to the team which puts Nassr’s coach in a better position. Hilal’s very weak defense line in the names of Alzuri, Almarshadi, Alghanam and Nami is also an advantage to Nassr. Those four are weak spots for Hilal but the surprise is how they still play in Asia’s top team. Hilal’s best line is the midfield. If their midfielders are utilized properly, Hilal may once again win the game.
Undeniably, the pressure to win is much greater on Hilal compared to Nassr. Hilal has been winning at least one championship every season, but keeping up with that is getting a little harder for them now.
If I have a wish for this match, it would be a good European referee to give the match a better and hopefully a fairer ending. I hope you all will enjoy it and we will have a deserving champion.
